Maths Week

Maths Week

From August the 13th -17th is Maths Week in New Zealand. The aim of Maths Week is to keep students interested in Maths. Maths Week resources are available to parents and students through the www.mathsweek.org.nz website. All the children in Room 2 are registered for this site and have been given their user name and password in their learning and thinking diary. This means if you have a computer that they can go on at home if you choose to. I suggest doing the ordering, jigsaw and square brick games first. Start at Level 1.To celebrate Maths Week Team One will be having a maths discovery day.
Have fun!

Bob Bickerton came to South School on Wednesday the 8th of August. He is a musician who can play lots of different instruments. He made us laugh a lot. Here are some of Room 2's stories.

I am watching a man playing instruments and he is good and I like his tune. We all liked the music and I laughed because the man was being silly. Me and Matua laughed the most in Team One. by Luca

I saw Bob Bickerton. He had a guitar. It was loud and he was funny. He was crying. Then he stopped. Then he had to do some music with Team 3. by Kayan

My favourite instrument was the harp at the show. It was cool at the show. Isobel's favourite is the harp too. I like the sound because big things sound low and small things sound high. by Grace

We went to Bob Bickerton and I saw the instruments. I had fun because he showed us the instruments. by Charlotte

I liked the violin because it was a beautiful sound. It was a beautiful instrument. by Zion

Team 1's Visit to the Aquarium

On Friday the 3rd of August Team 1 went to the Aquarium in Napier.
We went into the classroom first and Jacque told us the rules. Then we went on a tour with Jake. After that we went into the classrom. We learnt about mammals and fish. Jacque showed us the inside of a fish and then we played a game, "Is it a fish?" Next we went into the new Enviro room with Karlee. She showed us the new piece of artwork and talked about recycling. Then we played Fish Bingo. We had a great day and had some tired people on the bus on the way home.

Here are some of our stories:

I was standing in a shark and I saw a fish and an eel. It was cool because it was electric. by Zion

The shark is big. Mrs. Heald is in the water. The shark is in the water. by Tyrell

Mrs. Heald she swam with the sharks and the fish. We went in the bus. by James

We played, "Is it a fish?" and a crab is not a fish. We packed it up. by Bryan

I saw Mrs. Heald. She was swimming in the water. She was nearly by the shark. by Mahesha
